Data Sheet View Not Working?
The data sheet view in SharePoint is a useful tool for quickly editing several list items. It exists also in SharePoint 2010.
When using the browser of the SharePoint server, the data sheet view does not usually load, even though it works fine on the client workstations.
This is by design, as the data sheet view is implemented by using an ActiveX component called Access Web Datasheet. This is installed in Office Suite by default, but installing office clients on servers usually seems unnecessary and potentially hazardous. Luckily Microsoft provides free Access Runtime installer which is enough to enable Access Web Datasheet functionality. There are downloadable versions for Access Runtime 2007 and 2010 Beta. It seems that Access Runtime 2007 works well with SharePoint 2010:
